Lovegrove, born September 19, 1902, in Geneva township, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Ella Pittard, passed away January 31, 1976, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 12 days. Lovegrove, born September 19, 1902, in Geneva township, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Ella Pittard, passed away January 31, 1976, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 12 days. Mrs. Lovegrove was next eldest in a family of four children. With the exception of six months near Huntley, Mont., in 1911, and two years on a farm near Friend, Neb., in 1912 and 1913, she spent her life in or near Geneva. Following high school graduation she taught two terms in rural school district No. 81. After two more years of study at the University of Nebraska, she taught four years in the firth grad at Geneva. On June 1, 1926, she was united in marriage to Walter H. Lovegrove. To this union were born two daughters, Jean and Delores. Mr. and Mrs. Lovegrove lived on a farm near Geneva until 1950 when Mr. Lovegrove passed away. After moving into her new home one and one-half years later, she went back to school to obtain her teaching credentials. She attended University of California at Berkeley and Nebraska Wesleyan University, finishing her requirements at the University of Nebraska. She then taught nine years in the Geneva elementary school, retiring from the profession in 1963. Mrs. Lovegrove was a member of the Geneva United Methodist church where she was serving as a trustee. She was twice appointed president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and was currently treasurer of that organization. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma society, the O.K. Kensington group, past president of the Fillmore County Hospital Auxiliary and past president of the Geneva Women’s club. Mrs. Lovegrove was known for her devotion to her family, her many talents and her tireless efforts in a variety of activities for her church and community. She is survived by two daughters, Jean, and husband Darrel L. Hughes, of Geneva, and Delores, and husband H. Stewart Dand, of Garden Grove, Cal.; one sister, Mrs. Tom H. (Helen) Ewalt of Geneva; a brother, John A. Pittard of Geneva township; and six grandchildren, Douglas, Richard and Cheryl Hughes and Tracy, Laura and Kevin Dand, along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant brother. Services were held at the United Methodist church in Geneva, Tuesday, February 3, 1976 with Rev. H. Paul Smith officiating. The vocalist was Ray Nichols, accompanied by organist, Mrs. Norval Lomax. Donald R. Miller, Joe Schelkopf, Keith Burt, Claiton Lauber, Robert Bettger Jr. and Charles Allgood served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 12 February 1976 page 5.
