Description	:	Jean Carstenson, 91, of Monroe, Nebraska, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at the Genoa Community Hospital. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 14, 10:30 A.M. at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Rev. Murry Jay Johnston officiating. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Genoa. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. Jean was born October 21, 1922, in Genoa to Emil and Ida (Hanson) Pearson. She attended grade school in Nance County rural schools, districts 49 and 63. Jean graduated from Genoa High School in 1940. On January 1, 1942, Jean was united in marriage to Harold Carstenson in Genoa. They resided on a farm west of Genoa until Harold was called to the armed services. After his return, they moved to a farm near Monroe where they lived until 1957, after which they moved into Monroe. Jean worked for Bible Insurance Agency, Burke and Snyder Insurance Agency, and the Bank of Monroe until retiring in 1987. Jean enjoyed her family, traveling, making quilts, and woodworking. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church which she joined in 1950. She was also a member of the Monroe Ladies Aid and charter member of the Evening Circle when it was organized. Jean held several different offices in the church and the women's groups and taught Sunday School for several years.
