Read More	The Obituary of Jeanette (Thompson) Popham On December 7, 1852, Jeanette was born to David and Mary Thompson in the village of Buffalo, Wisconsin. She was one of three daughters and 8 sons born to these parents. Her eldest brother lost his wife by death, who left him a baby daughter. It was her lot to come into that home and mother the babe and keep house for her brother. On September 20, 1880, she was united in marriage to Nathan Popham and went to keeping house with him on a farm near Montello, Wisconsin. In this new home she was called mother the two motherless children of Mr. Popham's. In 1895, he, with his family, moved to a farm north of Rockford, Iowa. For 15 years this was their place of residence. At that time they came to Rockford to reside. Three sons and three daughters were born to them. From her childhood Mrs. Popham was a member of the Presbyterian Church, but on coming to this community the family attended the Congregational Church. Twenty-five years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis which has been a handicap to her all these years, but which she has patiently borne. Since the death of her son's wife she has cared for his motherless twins much of the time. The first child born to Mr. and Mrs. Popham was a daughter, "Alice" who was with them but three months. Their youngest child was a son, "Fred" who was drowned in a water tank at the age of three years, soon after they came from Wisconsin. Another son, Dave, passed away in 1929. For about 2 months, Mrs. Popham has failed in health quite rapidly. and on the morning of June 12, 1931, she peacefully went out into the life beyond. She is survived by her husband and companion of a half century, by two step children, William, of Chicago, and Mrs. Mary Allen, of South Dakota; and by Mrs. Julia Lesch, of Osage; Nate F., of Rockford; and Mrs. Jesse Ward, of Marion; by a sister, Mrs. Rachel Fuller, of Madison, South Dakota, and five brother. There are 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services June 15, 1931. Rev. Luce of the Methodist Church officiating. [The Rockford Register, Rockford, Illinois, June 1931]
