Phillip D. Norvell. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Jefferson Fugate was born in DuQuion, Illinois, October 5, 1859, where he grew to young manhood. He moved to Greenwood County in 1892, and has been a respected citizen of the county since that time. He has been a successful farmer and has made a host of friends during the many years of his stay. Mr. Fugate was united in marriage to Miss Josie Mack of Eureka, October 13, 1896. His home has been on the farm three miles west of Climax, He joined the Methodist Church in 1917, and the Climax Masonic Lodge in 1924. He was also a member of Della Croft Chapter of the Eastern Star of Climax. He has been in failing health for some time. He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter, Claude R. Fugate of Buffalo, Wyoming, Hugh Derwood Fugate of Wichita, Kansas, and Mrs. Carrie Walker, of Winfield, Kansas. He is also survived by a grandson, Ivan D. Fugate; a granddaughter, Mrs. Lola Neal; a great-grandson, Charles Allen Neal; several brothers and sisiters living in Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by a son, C.B. Fugate in October 1940. A host of friends and neighbors will miss this true and tried friend and neighbor. Masonic rites were held at the grave in Greenwood Cemetery. From Eureka Herald 2 September 1943 page 1. ADDED NOTES: Mr Fugate was the son of Sylvester Vaughn Fugate and Miss Lucas. Mr Fugate was married to Nancy J Simpson on 4 Dec 1881 at Harrison, Boone, Arkansas they had one daughter Mary Fugate. Mr Fugate married Carrie Lough 1885 they had four children together; Male Fugate infant 1886, Clarence B Fugate 1887, Claude R Fugate 1889 and Carrie Emma Fugate Walker 1892.
