Noftzger, marble works, North Manchester, was born in Wayne County, Ohio, May 18, 1839 and came to Wabash County, Ind. in 1842 with his parents, Joseph and Amelia Noftzger. He acquired a common school education and in young manhood he taught school and, at other times, clerked in stores. In 1867 he was married to Miss Anna C. Carson. Seven children blessed this union, only three of whom (Hollis, Fred and Nellie)survive. He was elected Trustee of Chester Township in 1878. Prior to this, he owned the bookstore in the post office, but sold out in 1879. He then engaged in the stone and marble trade in which business he is still engaged. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity and also a member of the Knights of Honor. [History of Wabash County, Indiana; published 1884] "Mr. J.P. Noftzger, of the Manchester Marble Works is sending out some as fine work in the monument and tombstone manufactory as has been done in this county, and his trade is being constantly extended into broader territory. This week he sold a beautiful Scotch Granite Monument to Mr. Geo. Fossler, South Whitley, to be erected at the grave of his deceased wife."(North Manchester Journal January 13, 1881) "J. P. Noftzger, of this city, will go to Cincinnati first of the week taking with him his little daughter five years old for treatment for her ears by a physician there. Miss Edith Noftzger will accompany them." (North Manchester Journal February 10, 1887) "Mr. J.P. Noftzger, of North Manchester, was in town Monday placing in position a fine monument over the grave of Mr. C.
