Jones, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on New Year's day. The contracting parties were Mr. Lollis Webb Shoulder, a promising young man, employed as clerk in Mr. J. M. Jones's store, and Miss Jemima Jones, a petite blond. Promptly at 8 a.m., the hour arranged for the ceremony, the bridal party entered the parlor to the strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march, effectively rendered by Miss Grace Jones, a cousin of the bride. The parlor was prettily decorated with evergreens, an arch, formed of evergreens and lighted with candles from which the bell was suspended was arranged in one corner of the room, under which the bride and groom stood. Mr. Alpheus Jones and Miss Hester Jones brother and sister of the bride, standing on either side formed a pretty picture. Rev. H. M. Roane performed the ceremony. The bride was attired in white pointed esprit over satin. Her sister wore white mull. After the ceremony and congratulations, the bride donned a travelling suit of brown, with hat and gloves to match, and the twain left immediately amid a shower of rice for the home of the groom in Rockbridge county, where they will spend a week. The presents were numerous, pretty and useful. The groom's uncle, Mr. Shoulder, of Rockbridge County, attended the wedding, and accompanied them home. Quite a number of invited guests from the neighborhood were present, also Mr .Wm. Jones, of Wier, Miss Mary Slaven, of Meadow Dale, Miss Ella Hiner, of McDowell, and Miss Jemima Seybert, of Strait Creek. Highland Recorder April 17, 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Shoulder have gone to Staunton to purchase furniture, etc. They expect to go to house- keeping in what was formerly the Millinery store. By the addition of a kitchen, they will have a neat little cottage. The Recorder January 23, 1975 Mrs. Jemima Jones Shoulder, 92, formerly of Staunton and widow of Lollis W. Shoulder, died Tuesday, Jan. 14 in a Staunton Nursing home. She was born May 31, 1882, in Highland County, a daughter of William A. and Margaret (Seybert) Jones. She was a member of Doe Hill United Methodist Church and had received her 50-year pin and Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at Doe Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Riley Smith.
