With her parents she came to Iowa in a four-horse covered wagon in 1868, first settling at Spring Grove in Mitchell county. Read More	OBITUARY Jennie Eliza Lee Jennie Eliza Lee was born on January 31, 1863, at Jefferson, Ohio, the daughter of John C. and Emma Lee. With her parents she came to Iowa in a four-horse covered wagon in 1868, first settling at Spring Grove in Mitchell county. In 1874 they moved to Orchard and in that community she has lived most of the time since. She died on January 18, 1939, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Charles Lewis, after a brief illness. She attended public school, mostly in Orchard. She studied music under various teachers and for many years taught music in the Orchard community. She was always ready to assist and help those who needed her. She helped care for various members of her own family when they were ill. Perhaps few people have been more devoted to the church than was she. She was the only remaining charter member of the Congregational church of Orchard. The responsibility of organist was given her when she was 16 years of age, and in that capacity she continued for fifty years. She as an excellent organist. Also she was a member of the Ladies Aid and served as clerk of the church. Another sphere in which her influence was widely felt was in her religious instruction as a teacher of various Sunday school classes. How many boys and girls of the Orchard community have come up under her teaching no one knows,but they are many, and they rise up and call her blessed. Moreover, during the few years she lived in Osage, she rendered superior service in the chior of the Congregational church here. Those who knew her best will miss her most. She was always ready to help in times of sickness or sorrow. Just to have her with one, with that bright smile and cheerful dispostion, was like a ray of sunshine. In her wide affections she cherished a deep and tender regard for the welfare of family, and often times she would undertake more than her strength warranted. She is survived by her two brothers, Dr. Frank W. Lee, of Osage, and Clifford A. Lee, of Newbury (near Portland) Ore.; one sister, Mrs. Charles Lewis who lives midway between Osage and Orchard; also a number of cousins, nephews and nieces, and a vast number of friends. In recent years she had made her home with her sister, Mrs. Lewis. Funeral service was conducted at the Shelledy funeral home on Sunday at 2:30 o'clock p.m. by her pastor, Rev. Stiles Lessly, assisted by Rev. T. P. Solem, and burial was made in the Osage cemetery. Those from away who came to her funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Lee, of Newburg, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Lee, R. V. Lee, all of Colman, S.D.; Miss Linnie Shotwell, Vinton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gueffroy, Madison, S.D.; Mrs. B. N. Hendricks, Frank Ketchum and Miss Edith Ketchum, all of Riceville, Mr. and Mrs. Osborne Ellison, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. Ethel Peterson and daugher of Clear Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hoel, Waterloo; Elbert Hendricks and Miss Alice Hendricks, Riceville; Mrs. Clark Johnson, Mrs. Neal Fox, Mrs. Albert Boostrom, and Miss Lulu Riggles, all of Vinton.
