She was the daughter of George and Josephine Towne Karnes. She was born on Jan.14, 1909 in Highland County. Her parents and six brothers preceded her in death. She is survived by one brother, Paul and wife, Ella Mae Karnes; and one sister, Josephine Hadley Harner and husband. Six sisters- in-law also survive: Mrs. Carey Karnes of Sidney, Mrs. Joseph Karnes, Mrs. Orville Karnes and Mrs. William Karnes of Greenfield and Mrs. George Karnes Jr. and Mrs. Isaac Karnes of Hillsboro, and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Karnes grew up at Karnes Orchard and worked there. She attended Ohio State University and graduated from Wilmington College with a B.S. in home economics. She was secretary for Friends United Meeting, Ind., teacher at Friendsville Academy, Indiana, Dietitian for Highland District Hospital and teacher at Whiteoak High School at Mowrystown. She was a long time member of the Fall Creek Friends Church and W.C.T.U. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 P.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Pastor Chris Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call tonight from 6 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to Fall Creek Friends Meeting in care of Marjorie Cook, treasurer, 11681 U. S. Route 50, Hillsboro.
