Mr. Karnes and the former Josephine Towne were married March 6, 1907,at the Methodist Parsonage in Greenfield by the Rev. John T. Berry. Mr. and Mrs. Karnes have nine children, including seven sons, two daughters, 25 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The children are Carey of Troy, William of Greenfield, Joseph, Paul and Orville of Greenfield, Rt. 2, Isaac of Hillsboro, Rt. 4, George Jr. of Hillsboro, Rt. 1, Mrs. Josephine Hadley of Hillsboro, Rt. 1, and Miss Jenny Karnes at home. Mr. and Mrs. Karnes, who have lived all their married life at Greenfield, Rt. 2, own and operate the Karnes Orchard and fruit market. The Rev. Wayne Tone, pastor of the Fall Creek Friends Church, opened the program with a short talk and prayer. Rev. John L. Montgomery, former pastor, gave a short talk and read a poem entitled "Just 50 Years Ago". Jonathan Tone played a saxaphone solo. Rev. Frank Milner, who served the church for 17 years, gave a talk. William Karnes read an appropriate poem. Mrs. Annie Meredith concluded the program by playing several favorite hymns of Mr. and Mrs. Karnes. Organ music during the afternoon was provided by Mrs. Gordon Arnott and Miss Helen Woods. Delicious refreshments ice cream, cake, coffee, punch and mints were served during the afternoon from a beautifully appointed table. Serving during the afternoon were the daughters-in-law, Mrs. Hazel, Dorothy, Jane, Ella Mae, and Anna Jane Karnes. They were assisted by others during the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Karnes received a beautiful gold colored hassock from the church and many other lovely gifts for which they thanked their friends and relatives. Among those from a distance who attended the open house were Mr. and Mrs. Ryan B. Hall and daughters, Ann and Kathy, of Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. She is survived by her husband, George Sr.; two daughters, Miss Jennie Karnes at home and Mrs. Josephine Hadley, Hillsboro Rt. 1; seven sons, Cary M. of Troy, Joseph, Paul and Orville, all of Greenfield Rt. 2, William of Seaman, Isaac of Hillsboro and George Jr. Hillsboro Rt. 1; one brother, James Towne, Greenfield; and 26 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was born in Highland County on Oct. 26, 1886, the daughter of Joseph and Nancy Caldwell Towne and had resided here all her life. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 P.M. at the Fall Creek Friends Church with Rev. John Montgomery and Rev. Wayne Tone officiating and burial Following in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans Funeral Home after 3 P.M. Tuesday.
