Marvin Palmer officiated. Jens Peter Asmussen, 87, died Tuesday morning, March 13, at Nicol Home, Glasco. He was born to Hans and Maren Hansen Asmussen on a farm south of Simpson, June 13, 1891. Asmussen, Simpson, were Friday, March 16, in the Simpson United Methodist Church. Rev. Marvin Palmer officiated. Jens Peter Asmussen, 87, died Tuesday morning, March 13, at Nicol Home, Glasco. He was born to Hans and Maren Hansen Asmussen on a farm south of Simpson, June 13, 1891. His parents were pioneer settlers in the Simpson community, coming from Denmark. He lived in the area all of his life. He was baptized into the Lutheran Church as an infant. He attended school at Sunnyside School near his home. He served in the Army in World War I. On May 31, 1918, he was united in marriage to Pearl Nettie Enterline Long. She preceded him in death in September 1970. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 214 Simpson and received his 50th year pin. In the early 50's Jens and his wife toured Europe for three months and visited his parents childhood homes in Denmark. Jens farmed and was also a stockman. After his wife's passing he lived on his farm south of Simpson until January of 1978 when he entered the Nicol Home in Glasco. He was helped a great deal the last few years by Henry Prochaska in taking care of his business on the farm. His philosophy of life was "Live a simple live, live right and be honest, faithful and true in whatever he did." Survivors include a brother, Henry Asmussen, Leoti, KS., a sister, Anna Asmussen, Nicol Home, Glasco; brother-in-law, Glen Smith, Concordia; three nieces and three nephews. Interment was in the Glasco Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Prochaska, Paul Grittman, Dale Prochaska, Joe Jindra, Darrell Haley, Robert Louthan. Organist was Carla Tatro and singers were Faye Pearson and Berta Lou Siegrist. --- No children were born to this union.
