Description	:	Jeremiah Calvin Fox was born September 1, 1846, in Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Baltzer and Nancy Fogle Fox. On October 19, 1944, he married Sarah Lucinda Forney, daughter of Emanuel and Elizabeth Freeze Forney. They had 7 children, one daughter (Theodosia) having died in childhood. Calvin Fox, who many years ago drove the stage coach from Thurmont to Frederick, died Sunday evening at 6:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John N. Franklin, Thornbrook, near Mt. St. Mary's College, aged 97 years, eight months and seven days. Mr. Fox was one of the oldest residents in the northern section of the county. A son of the late Baltzer and Nancy Fogle Fox, Mr. Fox was the last member of a family of fourteen. He is survived by four children: Mrs. Franklin, Mrs. Thomas C. Hays, Emmitsburg; George E. Fox, Graceham; Charles Cosmos Fox, Ellicott City. Fifteen grand-children and 16 great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will take place at the late home Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Charles H. Corbett. Interment in United Brethren Cemetery, Thurmont. From the Frederick News of September 17, 1993: "Hays-Franklin reunion this weekend. Nearly 100 members of the Hays and Franklin families will converge on the family home called Thornbrook, located between Emmitsburg and Thurmont, this weekend. The occasion marks the 100th anniversary of the purchase of the property by J. Calvin Fox, known as 'Granddaddy Fox' to his family. Most of those attending are related to Fox through his daughters, Margaret Fox Franklin and Minnie Fox Hays, both deceased. The occasion also marks the 90th birthday of Fox's grandson, Judge William E. Hays of Waltham, Massachusetts. During the weekend, Judge Hays will give a talk about Thornbrook and its history as a popular summer guest house in the early years of this century. The weekend will also feature an outing at Pen-Mar and a picnic at Thornbrook. Music-making was a great tradition at Thornbrook and members of the families are planning to form a 20-voice chorus to sing at the Sunday service at the Emmitsburg Presbyterian Church on September 19. Presiding at the service will be ministers Benjamin Jones and Laurean Warner, relatives of the family. The public is invited to attend the service, which begins at 11 a.m."
