Mr. Kaslon will be cremated following the services, with private family burial in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at Ashton. Peters Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Kaslon was born May 13, 1943, in Loup City to Floyd and Agnes (Hurt) Kaslon. He was the oldest of their five children. Jerome grew up on the family farm east of Ashton, being part of several “firsts” in and around central Nebraska. Among those was the first irrigation well in Sherman County, one of the first combine harvesters in the state, and one of the early adapters of “no till” farming. After graduating from Ashton High School in 1961, he was a member of the work crew that constructed part of the fertilizer plant in Farwell. In 1965, Jerome joined the Army National Guard, where he trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He was united in marriage to Marcene Stanczyk on Aug. 26, 1967, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The couple set up residence on a farm just south and east of Ashton. They were blessed with seven children and their children in turn blessed them with 11 grandchildren and one stepgrandchild. Jerome enjoyed farming and raising cattle and hogs. He retired from farming in 2006. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and was a devout Catholic, and as a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 5455 of Loup City, he led the rosary many Sundays before mass. He was an avid supporter of St. Francis Church and of the community of Ashton. He enjoyed visiting with fellow farmers and friends over countless cups of coffee and also enjoyed participating in football pools. He is survived by his wife, Marcene Kaslon of Ashton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeff and Traci Kaslon of Malcolm, John and Marsha Kaslon of Ashton and Jody Kaslon of Ashton; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Janet Koperski of Farwell, Jenny and Mark Cich of Greenwood, Jeanene and Bjorn Bergstrom of Kearney and Joanne and Trent Carda of Hibbing, Minn.; grandchildren, Lane, Toby and Weston Koperski, Claire, James, John, Jack, Josef and Joel Kaslon, June and Marleigh Carda and Alicia Garriott; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Shirley Kaslon of Ashton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Arlene and James Choquette of Upland, Debbie and William Lantz of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Pamela and Mark Koch of Hastings; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Agnes.
