Collision With Freight Transport on Last Saturday Sends Community Into Mourning Five Fort Benton High School students and their music instructor lost their lives Saturday morning when their car collided head-on with a Great Northern Freightways semi-trailer 13 miles out of Great Falls. The accident happened about 7:20 a.m. The students and more than eighty other local school musicians were enroute to the district six music festival in Great Falls. The highway patrolmen said the passenger car in which the six were riding was pulling out to pass another car when it collided with the Havre-bound freight truck. Heavy fog which made for poor visibility, and wet pavement, were contributing causes to the accident. The impact demolished the car and most of the victims were thrown from the wreckage. All were instantly killed. Those killed in the crash were: Cleo Lorene Crane, 17; Alderine Louise LaBarre, 14; Jerome F. Nangengast, 17; Mark Donald Paul, 18; Robert Martin Peterson, 18; Harvey M. Parsons, 36, music director in Fort Benton Schools. Jerome Francis Nagengast was born June 25, 1939, in Fort Benton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Nagengast of this city. From his third year on he had attended local schools and was a member of the junior class. During his high school years he participated for three years in the Pep and concert bands, two years with the school chorus, with Jayvee football squad last year and this year with the varsity, gaining his letter this year, varsity track for two years, and this year with the mixed ensemble and B club. He was a member of the Catholic church and of the youth organizations there. He is survived by his parents, five sisters, Mrs. Ted Davison, Patricia Anne, E. Maxine, Leone Dorothy, and Marilyn Alice; and two brothers, Charles Martin and Richard Anthony; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Nagengast, of this city. Rosary was recited at the church at eight o'clock Tuesday evening and funeral services were held at nine o'clock this Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. Fr. Geisen, of Malta, and others. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
