Weigel, Sr. 81 of Wetmore, Colorado passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Skyline Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canon City, Colorado. A Rosary will be held at St. Benedicts Church in Florence, Colorado, on Sunday, February 26th at 5:30 pm. The Funeral will be at 10:00 am on Monday, February 27th at St. Benedicts Church in Florence, Colorado. Jerome was born March 20th, 1930 in Las Animas, Colorado, the son of Dominic and Anna Weigel. He married Dorothy (Calkins) Weigel September 29th, 1953. Jerome and Dorothy moved to a Wetmore, Colorado ranch in 1965 where they raised their five children. Jerome worked as a meat cutter while running the ranch. He spent many hours volunteering in the Wetmore community as a 4-H leader, fire chief of the Wetmore Volunteer Fire Department, and a board member of the Wetmore Community Center. He was loved by all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as the surrounding community. Survivors include five children, Pearl and John Bailey of Boaz, Alabama; Jerome and Nellie Weigel of Seaford, Virginia; Dora and Glen Welch of Leavenworth, Kansas; Pearl and Norberto Caez of St. Marys, Georgia; and William and Tina Weigel of Yorktown, Virginia; Eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Anna Weigel, six brothers and two sisters, and wife, Dorothy Weigel. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Wetmore Community Center, Wetmore Community Library, or Wetmore Volunteer Fire Department.
