A Celebration of Life Service will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Private family graveside services will be in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery, rural Tipton, Iowa, with full Military Honors. Jerry Duane Wood was born January 14, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lloyd and Marie (Rife) Wood. He was raised on the family farm north of Rochester and attended Snaggy Ridge Country School until the 8th grade. He then continued his education at Tipton Community School and graduated with the Class of 1960. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in August of 1960, and received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, then to Fort Dix New Jersey. After completing his training, he returned home to work with father in his welding shop, Woods Repair, in Rochester, working as a self-taught welder. He married Barbara Isabel on September 12, 1964, at the Rochester Methodist Church. He was self-employed as a welder and fabricator, working out of the family shop, which had two name changes, Wood’s Welding and Repair, then to Wood’s Truck Equipment, when he went into partnership with his brother, Keith Wood. The shop closed in 1983 and he then became employed with Baron Corp Wilton, until 1987 when he worked with Wendling Quarries in Moscow until 1998. In 2000, he was employed by River Products in Coralville, until 2004. He worked at other jobs to include, Rural Recycling in Stanwood and JR’s Truck Repair in West Liberty. After 34 years in Rochester, they purchased the Chapman farm on Atalissa Road and built a new house in 1998, with a welding shop. One of his favorite hobbies was wood carving of water fowl, also a self-taught talent. Surviving are his wife, Barbara; one son, Doug Wood; one daughter-in-law, Teresa (Jon) Biles; one grandson, Jaydon Biles; one brother, Keith (Carolyn) Wood; three sisters-in-law, Betty (Gerald) Holt, Cathy (Isabel) Johnson and Sandy Rummells; many nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his parents, one son, Brett Wood, one infant brother, Gary Wood, two sisters, Beverly Yerington and Linda Christensen, his father and mother-in-law, Ray and Wilma Isabel, two brothers-in-law, Harry Yerington and Jerry Christensen, two nieces, Tammy Christensen and Jessie Holt and one nephew, Jacob Holt.
