Brown, 87, of Norfolk will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery and military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Brown died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Faith Regional Health Services. Memorials are directed to the Alzheimer's Association. --- Jerry was born on Aug. 20, 1921, in Norfolk, the son of Jerry A. and Goldie I. (Adkins) Brown. He graduated from Norfolk High School in 1939 and then graduated from Doane College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 10, 1942, to Jan. 5, 1944, and then returned home to work with his father, selling insurance, real estate, finance and farm management. He married Margaret R. Heim on Aug. 7, 1948, at Lincoln. Jerry was called back to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from May 1, 1951, until Jan. 31, 1953. He then returned to the insurance business, retiring from Brown Insurance in 1982. A lifelong member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, he served in numerous positions. He was a life member of American Legion Post 16, a member of Kiwanis, past president of the YMCA, Elkhorn Valley Natural Resources and was a Mason. Jerry is survived by his wife, Margaret "Ruthie" Brown of Norfolk; their children, Janet Lane of Norfolk, Richard Brown and his wife, Heidi LaClair of Kearney, Katherine and her husband, David Dalton of Lakewood, Colo., and Doug Brown and his wife, Gail Korell of Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Margaret Scarborough, David "Chip" Dalton, Samuel LaClair, Kepler LaClair, Carroll LaClair, Willa Rose LaClair, Cora Brown and Aaron Brown; and his first great-grandchild, who will be arriving soon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Jimmy in 1953.
