Busick 72, of Brookings, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at The Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings. Jerry Wayne Busick was born on August 27, 1941, the son of Owen and Maxine (Andersen) Busick in Osceola, IA. He met the love of his life, Sherry Wilkins, when he was 16 and she was 13. They were united in marriage on June 24, 1962. They were blessed with four daughters, Roxie, Julie, Becky and Bobbi. Jerry grew up in the grocery business. He began his career at Hylton's Grocery in Osceola, IA. After a few years, he was recruited by Hy-Vee Food Store in Osceola, as a produce manager. He moved throughout Iowa, working his way to store manager. His final store brought him and his family to Brookings, SD in 1976. He retired from Brookings Hy-Vee in 1986. Bowling was always a huge passion of his; in 1985 he began his career in the bowling industry. In 2002, he purchased Prairie Lanes Bowling Center, in Brookings. This is where he continued to work during his "retirement". Jerry looked forward to coffee with the guys each afternoon and never wanted to "win" the number game. His hobbies included fishing, spending time at his cabin, playing cards, traveling and sports especially following the Jackrabbit teams. He especially loved spending time with his family and was so proud of each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grateful for having shared his life is his wife, Sherry Busick, of Brookings, SD; four daughters, Roxie (Les) Nelson, of Brookings, SD, Julie (Dave) Flora, of Pacific Junction, IA, Becky Anderson, of Brookings, SD, and Bobbi (Paul) Larsen, of DeSmet, SD; one sister, Carol (Dan) Cook of VanWert, IA; sister-in-law, Tina Busick, of Farragut, IA; 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, and his secret of knowing his 3rd great grandchild is coming in July.
