Holmes, chairman of the Carver Board of Selectmen who had served the town as selectman for 30 years, died Friday at St. Luke's Hospital, Middleboro, after several months illness. Holmes was 65 years of age. Founder of the Jesse A. Holmes and Sons wooden box company, Holmes was also a cranberry grower. He belonged to the Massachusetts Selectmen's Association, Plymouth Lodge of Masons, and Carver Grange, of which he was a charter member. He was on the board of directors of the Plymouth Five Cents Savings Bank and the Middleboro Co-operative Bank. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Blanche E. Holmes; his sons, Norman V. Holmes of Carver and Donald H. Holmes of Worcester; a daughter, Mrs. Laura Donner of Middleboro and 11 grandchildren. On Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock funeral services were held from the Carver First Baptist Church, followed by interment in Central cemetery, Carver.
