Description	:	Union City Times-Gazette-Mon.,Nov. 10,1947 Funeral Tuesday For Jesse Bird,Pioneer Resident Jesse Bird, 96, one of the earliest pioneers to the Lynn community,died Saturday afternoon. Funeral services for Mr. Bird will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the New Liberty church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Bird came to Randolph county in 1867,making the trip from Randolph county,North Carolina,with his parents to Richmond by train and then the rest of the way on foot. Funeral services for Mr. Bird will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the New Liberty church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Bird came to Randolph county in 1867,making the trip from Randolph county,North Carolina,with his parents to Richmond by train and then the rest of the way on foot. Mr. Bird,his parents and two brothers left the south at the time of the Civil War. They carried with them all the clothing they had as soldiers had taken practically everything they owned. During his lifetime Mr. Bird liked to tell people how Lynn looked when he and his family arrived there. He said a carpenter shop,a small grain mill and a couple of shacks constituted the town. He was the oldest member of the New Libery Chrisian Congregational church. He had attended the church for 72 years and was one time superintendent for nine years. Survivors include a daughter,Mrs. Clark Johnson; five grandchildren;eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. One of the nephews is John Cagle,who made his home with Mr. Bird for 40 years.
