He was a member of Mathews Vol. Fire... Read More	MATHEWS - Jesse Coles Diggs, 78, of Cobbs Creek, Va., died Monday, March 15, 2004, at his home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born in Mathews County on Nov. 8, 1925. Mr. Diggs graduated from Mathews High School. During World War II he served in the European and Pacific theaters. He also served in the Korean Conflict. Following his military service he was employed at the Naval Supply Center, Yorktown, Va. After his retirement, he spent many years enjoying working on the waters he so loved. He was a member of Mathews Vol. Fire Department and one of the organizers of the Cobbs Creek Station. He was a charter member of Piankatank Ruritan Club and held various offices in the club. He was a past member of Mathews Ruritan Club. He served as Zone Governor for Zone 4 of the Chesapeake District. He was also a member of the American Legion. Mr. Diggs was a member of numerous other organizations in the community and supported the efforts of many causes including the American Red Cross, the Mathews Vol. Rescue Squad, Hands Across Mathews, Meals On Wheels and many others through his efforts in the Ruritan Club. Mr. Diggs was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, and served as a deacon and trustee. Mr. Diggs was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac W. and Edna A. Diggs. He is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Frances Anne Diggs; his daughter, Colanne Diggs Bunting and husband, Raymond A., of Cobbs Creek; grandchildren, Stuart A. Bunting and wife, Beth, of Gloucester Tanya Bunting Brownley and husband, Dalton III, of Hartfield; great-grandchildren, Sara Caroline Bunting, Alexandra Claire Bunting and Randolph Coles Brownley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Spring Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mathews Vol. Rescue Squad, Mathews, VA 23109, and Spring Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 92, Cobbs Creek, VA 23035. The arrangements are being handled by Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews.
