The first regular Salvation Army funeral ever held in Chico took place about two o’clock yesterday afternoon. Early last week Jesse Desing [note spelling], an 11 year old boy stepped on a piece of bone and cut his foot. The cut healed up but last Thursday the boy took sick and on Friday he was taken with severe spasms and on Sunday afternoon about 2:30 o’clock he died form lockjaw. The deceased while not a regular member of the Salvation Army was an attendant of the meetings and took much interest in them. The members of the Army turned out yesterday afternoon and conducted the funeral. The procession was headed by the drum, and four members followed carrying the casket. After them came the relations of the deceased and other members of the Army. Simple but appropriate services were held at the barracks, after which the march was resumed to the cemetery. [no age provided] Jesse G. Disney was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on October 29, 1894.
