Description	:	Jesse married Sarah M. Morgan on August 16, 1894, in Knox County, Illinois. According to their on-line marriage record, Sarah was the daughter of John Allen Gelgin and Nancy R. (Orvis) Belgin. Karen Mecham has written me that Sarah's maiden name was Belger, not Belgin. Her parents were John Allen Belger and Nancy Roxy (Orvis) Belgerr. In the 1900 Wapello County Census, Jesse is shown with his wife Sarah, a daughter Ethel, age 11, born in Iowa, and a son, Clyde O., age 3, born in Illinois. Karen Mecham has provided this information about Jessie's wife Sarah: "I believe she was born in December of 1869 in Indiana. I have census records of her immediate family members. She married Robert Riley Morgan the 14th of October in 1888 in Eddyville, Wapello, Iowa. There were four daughters born to Sarah and Robert Riley Morgan during the time period of their marriage, including Ethel, the 11 year old you mentioned from the 1900 census. Sarah left her husband Robert Morgan in 1894. Sarah had Ethel with her when she married Jesse Ora Harty on the 16th of August 1894 in Knox County Illinios. My great grandfather Clyde Harty was born 17th of January 1897 from this union. Sarah then left Jesse sometime between 1900 and 1909 and took Ethel and Clyde with her. Sarah married another man named Ed Duncan and lived in Glasgow, Montana. Sarah died the 16th of June 1945 in the home of her son Clyde J Harty in Sheridan, Wyoming. At the time of Sarah's death Ethel was believed to have lived in Missouri and either ran or owned a hotel there. I don't believe that Ethel was the half-sister referred to in Jesse's obituary." Jesse married Mary Lowe on September 7, 1909, in Schuyler County, Missouri. Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," September 23, 1950: J.O. Harty Dies; Retired Morrell Man Jesse Ora Harty, 81, of 536 South Davis street, died this morning at the University hospitals in Iowa City where he had been a patient for 21 days. Born in Henry county June 24, 1869, he had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 50 years. A member of the Christian church, he also belonged to Hickory Camp No. 3 of the Woodmen of the World. Prior to his retirement in 1941, Mr. Harty was an employee of John Morrell & Co. for 44 years. He is survived by one son, Clyde Harty of Alliance Neb.; two grandsons, John and Wesley Harty, both of Alliance Neb.; six stepchildren, Mrs. Maude J. Spears and Mrs. Blanche Moone [sic - should be Mooney], both of Ottumwa, Mrs. W.E. Spilman of Kirksville, Mo., Lambert and Herbert Lowe, both of Ottumwa and John Lowe of Omaha; one half-sister, Mrs. J.J. Adams of Huntington, W. Va.; and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Don C. Johnston of Stockport. His wife, Mary, preceded him in death in 1941. "HARTY FUNERAL," From "Ottumwa Courier," (This notice contained a picture of Jesse.): Funeral services for Jesse O. Harty, 81, of 536 South Davis street, who died Friday evening at the University hospitals in Iowa City, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. C.A. Albin of the Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Mr. Harty was a retired veteran employee of Morrell's. Pallbearers will be O.E. Lowe, James Lowe, Herbert Lowe, Earl Mooney, James Spears and Don Spears.
