Read More	------------------------------------ Mr. J.T.J. Harris Dead. After a painful and serious illness of about ten days, Mr. J.T.J. Harris died at his residence on Forest street Wednesday afternoon between 2 and 3 o'clock. Congestion of the lungs was the immediate cause of death. For some days before his death all hope of his recovery was abandoned. Eminent physicians used efforts to save his life, but to no purpose. Up to about two weeks before his death Mr. Harris was about his accustomed duties and though he had not been in his usual health for some time, no one suspected that his condition was critical. Mr. Harris was the eldest son of the late Sol. Harris, of Pleasant Valley, and spent practically all of his life in this section. He moved to this place some years ago and engaged in merchandising and later conducted the City Market. He was prominent in municipal affairs, having several times been elected a member of the town council. He was 51 years of age. Mr. Harris was a loving husband and father and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. His wife, who preceded him to the grave by several years, was a Miss Potts, also of Pleasant Valley. Besides three daughters, Mrs. A.M. Buchanan and Misses Wren and Mary Harris, all of this place, several brothers and a number of other relatives in this section survive. The funeral service was held from the residence Thursday at 11 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. Dr. J.H. Thornwell, after which the burial was made at the town cemetery. (Fort Mill Times - Wednesday, July 26, 1905) ------------------------------------ In March 1902 the Lancaster News mentions that J.T.J. Harris (Fort Mill) sells his plantation to Mr. J.P. Bailes with intent to move back to the city. ------------------------------------ "John Thomas Harris" or "Jesse Thomas Johnston Harris" ? J. T. J. Harris. A daughter that married in 1905 says she was married in the house of her parents. I believe that Mrs. Harris is not on the 1900 census. ------------------------------------
