Description	:	Jessica Lawson, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska (formerly of Genoa), died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Meridian Gardens in Columbus. The funeral service will be March 17, Saturday, at 10:00 A.M. at the Grace Baptist Church in Genoa with Pastor Dan Odom and Ken Taylor officiating. Interment will be on the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. at the church. Jessica Anne was born April 18, 1929, in Genoa, Nebraska, to Earl and Bernice (Elm) Lund. She was baptized at Genoa Congregational Church. She had two younger brothers, Warren and Lyle. She enjoyed her childhood including riding her fathers ponies bareback, working in the hay field, and chopping cockle burrs and sunflowers from the ditches. She attended school in Genoa and District 66, Nance County, and graduated from Genoa High School in 1946. She went on to earn her Certificate in Teaching from Nebraska Wesleyan College and returned to Genoa to teach for five years. Married Edwin Bratt Lawson March 4, 1951 Genoa, Nance County, Nebraska. Contributor: mm (50950498). They had three children, Lisa, Loree and Tom. After the sudden death of Eds sister Jean Flaherty in 1963, Jessica opened her home and welcomed Jeans daughters, Kathleen Ann and Joan Elizabeth into their family. In her later years, Jessica returned to the workforce as a clerk and accountant at IMC in Genoa for 15 years. She then went to work at Frontier Directory in Columbus for two years and completed her working career as a office manager at the Genoa Park Street Medical Clinic. Jessica had a special relationship with her brother Lyle throughout her life. While his stay at the Nebraska School for the Deaf, Jessica would send him small gifts and wrote letters reminding him of the farm and coming holidays. Throughout the years, Jessica and Lyle helped each other through the difficulties of life. Jessica mourned Lyles passing in 2008. Throughout her life, Jessica participated in community activities providing long service and holding leadership in such areas as Genoa Congregational Church Sunday School and Womens Fellowship, PEO Chapter EW, Genoa Museum Board, Genoa Indian School, Genoa Hospital Board, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Jessica had a zest for life which enabled her to have friends and acquaintances across the spectrum of life and society. She participated with various individuals and small groups in travel activities, golf, Bible studies, concerts, church services, shopping, lectures, and simply having coffee. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, telling them stories and spending quality time together. She had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice. She continues to rely upon Jesus and now sees Him face-to-face.
