OBITUARY Jessie Elva Hill, daughter of Horace G and Retta Hill, was born April 26, 1893 in Taylor County near Guss, Iowa and passed away July 21, 1971 in the Cononial Manor Nursing Home in Corning, Iowa She graduated from Western Normal College in Shenandoah and taught school in the Montgomery and Adams County rural areas for a number of years. On February 18, 1917, she was united in marriage to Clarence R. Peterson. They lived on a farm near Brooks, Iowa, for three years and then moved to the Peterson home place northwest of Villisca. In later years they moved in the Oak Hill vicinity where she resided until her death. To this union two sons were born Hillard and Bernard. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, all her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Hillard and wife Doris, of Gravity, and Bernard and wife Anneva of Norwalk, California; her grandchildren, Douglas and wife Sandra of Brea, California; Terry and wife Pat from Gravity, Bruce stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, Deborah and Daniel of Norwalk, Cynthia and Joe from Gravity; two great grandchildren Terri Ann and Troy Hillard; one brother-in-law, Carl Peterson and wife Honorine of Stanton; two sister-in-laws, Elvia Peterson and Virginia Hill from California; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and close friends. Jessie was a member of the Oak Hill Christian Church. She and her husband celebrated their Fiftieth Wedding anniversary, Feb 18, 1967. She was a loving and kind wife, mother and friend. Although she was in poor health the last few years, her religious faith helped her to remain patient and her love of flowers made her home bright and cheerful. She was always willing to do for others. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. A door swings briefly open, And a loved one slips away- Slip from life’s dark shadows, Into bright Eternal Day. Where earthly griefs are over, Where pain shall be no more, To Peace past understanding God has opened wide the door.
