Lloyd Anderson officiated with interment in L'Eau Qui Court, Niobrara. Jessie Margaret Lentz Colwell was born January 4, 1895 on a farm east of Hartington to Fred and Hermine Punzel Lentz. Jessie Margaret Lentz Colwell was born January 4, 1895 on a farm east of Hartington to Fred and Hermine Punzel Lentz. She died Sunday, July 10 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton at the age of 93 years and seven months. She was the oldest of nine children. Baptized, June 30, 1895, Jessie made her own affirmation of the Christian faith in 1909. She attended school to the eighth grade, following which she helped on her parent's farm. After WWII, Jessie and her brother, George, moved to Niobrara to oversee the operation of a farm their father owned. It was here that she met Frank W. Colwell. They married, March 17, 1926, at Yankton, S.D. and started farming five miles east of Niobrara. In 1936, they moved to the TC ranch, which adjoined their previous farm, living there their entire married life. Four sons were born to this union. Frank died in 1942, when the oldest son was 14. Jessie remained on the ranch, raising her sons and keeping the farm going with her sons help and hired men. Jessie retired from the farm in 1960, moving into Niobrara. She was a member of the Niobrara Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Women's group of the church. Jessie served as town librarian for a number of years and belonged to several Extension Clubs. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #4834 as well as a charter member of American Legion #224 of Niobrara, a long time member of Easter Star, Chapter 171 and Past Worthy Matron. In generally good health until recently, Jessie became a resident of Alpine Village in Verdigre, Dec. 7, 1987, where she was quite active in the day to day activities. Survivors include her four sons and their families. Thomas, Frederick, Richard and Lyle; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and one brother, Irvin Lentz. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, George, Harry, Carl and Frederick and three sister, Allyce, Sadie and Leona. ...The Creighton News 20 July 1988
