Two more young Highlanders were joined in wedlock Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, the ceremony being performed at the home of the bride's parents, Dr. and Mrs. O.J. Campbell, their daughter. Miss Jessie Slaven Campbell, becoming the bride of Mr. Harry S. Bird. The wedding was a quiet home affair, only the immediate relatives of the two families and a few invited friends being present. The parlor was handsomely and appropriately decorated, and the bridal party entered the room to the strains of the wedding march, played by Mrs. Paul Slaven. Miss Catherine Campbell, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and Mr. Lloyd Bird best man; Misses Lucy Gray Bird, sister of the groom, and Lillian Trimble, brides maids. Messrs. A. P. Gum and Warren Campbell, brother of the bride, groomsmen. Rev. N. A. Parker, pastor of the Presbyterian church, was the officiating minister, Rev. Mr. Wood, of Beulah church, assisting. Mr. and Mrs. Bird are members of well-known and prominent Highland families, the groom being a son of Mr. and Mrs. D.O. Bird, of Valley Center, a former pupil of the M. H. S., and has many friends both in the Back Creek community and at Monterey. The bride is the fourth daughter of Dr. and Mrs.O.J. Campbell, of this place, an attractive young lady and highly esteemed by all who know her. She was the recipient of many handsome and useful presents. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal party took a waiting automobile for eastern cities. The Recorder March 25, 1976 Mrs. Jessie Campbell Bird, 90, of Mill Gap died yesterday (Wednesday) at the Camelot Memorial Nursing Home in Richmond, where she had been a patient for some time. She was born at Covington, a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. O. J. Campbell. She was the widow of Harry S. Bird who died in December. 1975. Survivors include two sons, Warren Bird and Eugene Bird, both of Mill Gap; two sisters, Mrs. Adam Stephenson and Miss Katherine Campbell, both of Meadowdale; five grandchildren, Mrs. Jessie Gutshall, Mrs. Linda Fulton and David O. Bird all of Richmond, James Bird of Mill Gap and Miss Teresa Folks at Hampton, three great-grand-children and a number of nieces and nephews Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body will be at the Obaugh Funeral Home at McDowell.
