Description	:	Jewell "J" Smith, 83, of 402 S. Ferry St., died Oct. 25, 2010, at his home. He was born June 27, 1927, in Davis County to Benjamin and Inez Henson Smith. He married Estelene Farley May 23, 1953, She preceded him in death June 17, 1999. He married Lorean Steen Aug. 3, 2000. A graduate of Moulton High School, he served in the U.S.Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Ottumwa Water Works for 27 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of O.B.Nelson Post No. 3 of the American Legion and Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Allen Smith of Ottumwa and Mark Smith of Eldon; two stepsons, Larry Steen of Ottumwa and Gerald Steen of Glenwood, Mo.; six grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; twenty stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Evans of Bloomfield and June Scharff of Ottuwma. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elza Smith and sister Lillith Swarts. Funeral services will be 1pm Thursday at the Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield with military services conducted by O.B.Nelson Post No.3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will begin after 10am today at the funeral home with the family present from 4-6pm. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
