Description	:	JoAnne Hite, 72, of Luray died in her home on Friday, December 21, 2012. JoAnne loved the Christmas holidays. For many years she was responsible for decorating her church, St Paul Lutheran in Grove Hill, at Christmastime in greens and candles. She would begin cooking and baking for the holiday season at least a month in advance. On Christmas Eve, she would open her house to family and friends with 30 to 40 people having dinner there, but with enough food for twice that many. For many years she was responsible for decorating her church, St Paul Lutheran in Grove Hill, at Christmastime in greens and candles. She would begin cooking and baking for the holiday season at least a month in advance. On Christmas Eve, she would open her house to family and friends with 30 to 40 people having dinner there, but with enough food for twice that many. JoAnne loved being surrounded by her family and friends. Those times made her happiest. JoAnne was extremely compassionate. She would be the first person to deliver food to someone ill or who had recently lost a loved one, or to send a card to brighten someone's spirits. That compassion was demonstrated by the fact that she cared for her first husband at home during a long-fought battle with cancer. JoAnne also gave compassionate and loving care to both of her parents during their later years. JoAnne was also known to be feisty. She fought and won two childhood illnesses that many didn't survive. JoAnne's children often enjoyed listening to stories told by her parents about JoAnne's rambunctious days at Shenandoah High School where she graduated. She could be a rebel! When most women of her generation got married after high school, JoAnne decided to move to Washington DC to go to business school and then later moved to Kansas City, much to her parents chagrin. But JoAnne eventually moved back to Page County, married, and started a family. She was a wonderful,loving mother. She was the type of mother who made cupcakes for school parties instead of simply buying a bag of chips. She taught her kids how to stand up for themselves, instead of fighting their battles for them. She encouraged them to be better people and to achieve their goals without making them feel they had to live up to their parents' expectations. Combining JoAnne's compassion for other people, her strong will to do what was right, and knowing what it was like to lose a loved one to cancer, JoAnne fought to have a hospice created in Page County. She was executive director of hospice for many years. Later on, JoAnne became a pharmacy technician working at Rockingham Memorial Hospital and Walmart in Harrisonburg. JoAnne was also lucky. After losing her first love, she was able to find love a second time and married Daniel Hite of Luray. JoAnne and Danny created a wonderful life for themselves. They loved to dance and spend time with friends. Having grown up as a farmer's daughter, she embraced her role being a farmer's wife and loved to can fruits and vegetables. She made a new home that was very welcoming to her children and their grandchildren, a favorite place to all five grandchildren who loved the cows and Grandma's favorite, the miniature donkeys. She was born on September 11, 1940 to the late Paul Russell Shuler and Charlotte Atwood Shuler. She is survived by her husband, Daniel K. Hite, and three children by her late husband, Eddie Glenn, Sr.: daughter Robin Glenn Foltz of Shenandoah, and sons Steven Paul Glenn of Shenandoah and Eddie Lee Glenn, Jr. of Forest Grove, Oregon and five grandchildren: Abigail Foltz, Krystal Foltz, Caleab Foltz, Zachary Glenn, and Annie Glenn. Also surviving are JoAnne's brothers, Cletus Shuler and David Shuler and their wives, of Shenandoah, along with many nieces and nephews. "Honey/Mom/Granny/Grandma/JoAnne" – know that we love you very much, and that while we are grateful that you are no longer suffering, you will forever be missed. A memorial service is planned for 2PM on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grove Hill. The family would like to thank the doctors and caregivers at the University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville.
