Joan passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born May 30, 1931 in Pilsen, Kansas the daughter of Henry and Lillian (Holub) Jirak. Joan grew to womanhood in the Pilsen area before marrying Clarence Stroda on October 3, 1950 in Pilsen. Together they farmed, ranched, and raised their family.Joan was a member of the St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hope, was a member of the church Altar Society, and taught religious education. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, growing flowers, fishing and traveling to the mountains.Joan is survived by her loving husband Clarence of the home, daughter Patricia (Stroda) MacDonald of Wichita, Kansas; sons Greg and his wife Theresa Stroda of Chapman, Robert "Bob" Stroda and his significant other TeCoa Seibert of Chapman, Mark and his wife Rachel Stroda of Yellow Tail, Montana, Gary and his wife Connie Stroda of Hope, Kansas; sisters Millie Vinduska of Pilsen, Rita Molner of Seattle, Washington, Verna and her husband Dr. Eugene Vinduska of Pilsen, Kansas, Gemma and her husband Ed Davies of Marion, Kansas; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law David MacDonald, brothers Sylvan Jirak, Marion Jirak, and her parents.Her final resting place will be in the St. Phillips Catholic Cemetery near Hope. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to Birthright, Catholic Charities, or the St. Phillips Cemetery Fund and may be sent in care of the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 355, Hope, Kansas 67451.
