Read More	AURORA — Joan Moderow, 80, of Aurora passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at York General Hearthstone. Joan Maxine Moderow, the daughter of Earnest Alfred and Elsie Vandaily (Clark) Carman, was born in Red Oak, Iowa, on Dec. 9, 1936, and passed away in York, Neb., on Dec. 29, 2016, at the age of 80. She was raised on Prairie Island and Central City, where she completed her schooling. On March 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Roger Louis Moderow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City. They lived in Grand Island, Chapman and Rockford, Ill., and in 1956 they moved back to Marquette. After Roger’s father’s death, they took over the Moderow Laundry and Dry Cleaning route, and operated it from 1956 until 1982 when Roger’s health forced him to retire. During this time, Joan also drove the Marquette School Bus and worked at Hamilton Manor for 21 years, where she found the job very rewarding caring for the residents. Roger passed away on Sept. 12, 1994. Joan retired in 1995 and moved to Cross Roads Court in 2001. Joan was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Central City. She enjoyed camping and doing crafts and puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Russell; three brothers and two sisters. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her two children, Mike Moderow of Aurora and Christy (Don) Archer of Marquette; two grandsons, Bret (Samantha) Archer of Alda and Aaron Moderow of Central City; and six great-grandchildren. She still had a special place in her heart for Kathy and her children, Steve, Kelly and Tela, and their children. She is also survived by a brother, Jim (Paula) Carman of North Platte; a sister, Gayle (Larry) Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mary Carman of Muscatine, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
