Description	:	Joan Sheringham Wilson DeMasters, 83, of Roseland, passed away April 2. She was born April 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Arthur Frewen and Lucy Jeannette Wilson. She married Ellsworth Ray DeMasters of Roseland, Dec. 26, 1947, in Chesterfield, S.C. She worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., before devoting her life to raising three children.Joan was involved with many volunteer activities, including Meals On Wheels in Fairfax. Read More	Joan Sheringham Wilson DeMasters, 83, of Roseland, passed away April 2. She was born April 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Arthur Frewen and Lucy Jeannette Wilson. She married Ellsworth Ray DeMasters of Roseland, Dec. 26, 1947, in Chesterfield, S.C. She worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., before devoting her life to raising three children.Joan was involved with many volunteer activities, including Meals On Wheels in Fairfax. She was a member of Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax for many years and had been attending Grace Episcopal Church in Massies Mill. She was a wonderful wife, mother and a friend to all. She never met a stranger. She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 64 years, Ellsworth Ray DeMasters; and her three children, Ellsworth Ray DeMasters Jr. (Evelyn) of Louisville, Ky.; Edward William DeMasters (Darnell) of Fairfax, and Sara Jane Payne of Manassas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, David DeMasters (Kristy), Laura Beckham (Chris), Matthew DeMasters (Serena), Bryce Payne II (Caitlin), Jaclyn Roudabush (Billy) and Charlene Payne; and four great-grandchildren, Warner, Jacob and Jacen DeMasters and Cole Roudabush. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jeannette Steele and Helen Gantt; and brother, Arthur Wilson Jr. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 28 at Grace Episcopal Church in Massies Mill by the Rev. (Nelson County Times, Thursday, April 12, 2012) "Joan W. DeMasters of Roseland, who was killed in a car accident just four days shy of her 84th birthday, was known for her volunteer work. She spent countless hours volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Fairfax, according to her obituary. It also describes her as "wonderful wife, mother and a friend to all." DeMasters was killed in a car crash on U.S. 29 in Nelson County in the afternoon of April 2, She died at the scene, Virginia State Police said. DeMasters was making a left turn onto U.S. 29 from Virginia 56 about 3:40 p.m. when she pulled her 2000 Toyota Camry into the path of a 2007 Ford Focus, police said. The Ford Focus was traveling south on U.S. 29 and was unable to avoid the Camry, striking it on the driver's side, according to the release. DeMasters' husband, Ellsworth DeMasters, was brought to the University of Virginia Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford Focus, Antwan S. Rose, 33, of Madison Heights, was not injured. DeMasters and Rose were wearing seatbelts, according to the release. No charges will be filed. DeMasters is survived by her husband of 64 years and three children Ellsworth DeMasters, Jr., Edward DeMasters and Sara Payne. She is also survived by her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on April 28 at 2 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Massies Mill."
