Description	:	Joanie Marie Duryea, 82, died Sunday, December 16th, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's at her home at Highland Park Care Center. She was born in Elgin, Nebraska to Frank and Ruth Thoendel. Joanie attended and graduated from the Assumption Academy in Chadron, Nebraska. Read More	Joanie Marie Duryea, 82, died Sunday, December 16th, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's at her home at Highland Park Care Center. She was born in Elgin, Nebraska to Frank and Ruth Thoendel. Joanie attended and graduated from the Assumption Academy in Chadron, Nebraska. After high school, she attended Chadron State College where she received a degree in Elementary Education. While attending college, Joanie met the love of her life, Bobby Duryea and they later married on May 28th, 1956. To this union, three daughters were born DeeAnn, Vic, and Kathy. While the girls were growing up they moved several times throughout the state of Nebraska, before making their lifelong home in Alliance, NE. Joanie was known to many in the community as, Mrs. Duryea. She spent her entire professional career, nearly 35 years, teaching 2nd grade. Her family often would tease her about never getting out of the 2nd grade. After retirement, Joanie spent time casino hopping with Bobby, summertimes with her family at their place at Angostura, and dragging Bobby from place to place to find a good sale. In those years, she also volunteered at the Collection Basket and Kiddie Kampus. Joanie was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Traveler’s Protection Society and the Nebraska State Education Association. Joanie leaves behind her three daughters and their husbands DeeAnn (Roger) Nason, Vic (Rick) Bolek, Kathy (Kip) Reeves, her five grandkids Adam (Kristy) Bolek, Jenny (Nate) Lanik, Joni (Mike) Sautter, Izzy (Gene) Thompson, and Ryan (Clare) Dorshorst and the joys of her life her nine great-grandchildren: Rasine, Taylee, Espen, Nason, Brinlee, Kyden, Jack, Jillian, and Maggie. She is also survived by her siblings Dolores Anstette, Virginia Sides, Frank (Maureen) Thoendel and Ken (Ginger) Thoendel and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bobby and brothers-in-law, Wayne Sides and Carl Anstette.
