Pioneers Called By Death This Week Jobe Carson Buried in Ottawa Cemetery; Lived Here Since Infancy. J. S. Carson, youngest son of Abram and Elizabeth Carson, was born in Fayette county, Penn., and at the age of eighteen months the family moved to Henry county, Iowa, and after a stay of a few months there they moved to Clarke county, Iowa, and entered a tract of land in Jackson township, of the government. J. S. grew to manhood there. The homestead was purchased in the spring of 1855. The deceased was united in marriage to Miss Martha Jane Clark, September 3, 1874. To this union were born three sons, Minor C., Lewis E. and Oscar A. Carson, all living in Clarke county, and all attended the last illness of their father. When the estate was settled up the old homestead fell to J. S. and here he reared his family, and made it his home until about fifteen years ago, when he moved to Woodburn, Iowa, and purchased a home which has been his home ever since. On the 22nd day of August he passed away at the advanced age of 78 years, 7 months and 12 days. He leaves to mourn their loss, his aged companion, the three sons, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one brother, E. L. Carson, near Woodburn, and a sister, Mrs. Ellen Reese, of Chariton, Iowa, besides other relatives and a host of friends. He was a man of good counsel and judgment, and was called upon by the people of his township to fill important offices of trust for many years. He was a member of the board of trustees for a period of twelve years. He was a good neighbor, kind to those whom he met, and was a liberal giver in the support of the gospel as long as he was able to attend. For the last fifteen years his health has failed him until he was compelled to remain at home most of the time. In his death the family has lost a good husband and father, and the community a good citizen. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Roy Weaklend at the Woodburn M. E. church Tues., and interment was made in the Ottawa cemetery. Transcribed as published by Karen Brewer. Note: The date of death is listed in the obituary as August 22, 1932. The Death Certificate has the date of death as August 21, 1932.
