The Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa January 9, 1919, Page 5 Thomas Carson, son of Abram and Elizabeth Carson, was born in Fayette county, Penn., August 27, 1841, and died at his home in Galena, Mo., December 25, 1918, aged 77 years, 3 months and 28 days. In the spring of 1855, he came with his parents to Jackson township where he resided continuously until about twenty years ago when he moved to Galena, Mo., where he engaged in the mercantile business. In 1861 he enlisted in the 6th Iowa Regiment and served until the end of the Civil War. He ever remained a most loyal patriotic citizen and often expressed praise for the (?) flag which he had defended in the battle field. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Coppock in 1866 at Woodburn. To them were born thirteen children, four of whom preceded him in death. Besides this immediate family he leaves to mourn their loss four sisters, Mrs. Mary Arnett, Mrs. Nancy Johnson of Chariton, Mrs. Caroline Crowe of Warsaw, Indiana, and two brothers, E. L. and J. S. of Woodburn. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. V. W. Henderson at the M. E. church in Woodburn Tuesday, December 31st at 1 p.m. Interment was made in the Ottawa cemetery.
