Description	:	Info from E on 05/04/2019 Water Tender Second Class Joe Eckert WT2c was a hero and saved many lives when his ship the USS Conklin DE 439 was rolled on its side during an enormous typhoon in the Pacific in WWII. All power and lights went out. In total blackness Joe got the boilers restarted by touch. If he had not, and the ship continued powerless in the heaving waves and high winds , all might have died. Joe received a Letter of Commendation for outstanding performance of duty.
