Services were Monday, October 10, at 1 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ralph H. Ford officiating. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery. Olson. Mr. Luth, son of Henry and Alvena Bartling Luth, was born June 16, 1911, at Butte, Nebraska. They moved to Emerson when he was young, and he grew up and received his education in Emerson and Butte. After completing his education he was a truck driver in the Atkinson and O'Neill areas before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. Joe married Evelyn McCutchan on June 13, 1942, and that year entered the U.S. Army. He served with the 867th Anti-aircraft Artillery Warning Barallion (sic), Battery A, in the Pacific Theater and was discharged in October 1945. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1950. He worked at Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and then for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1973. He then worked for L&L Distributing Co. until last April when his health failed. He had a very close friend, Wayne Fox of O'Neill. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Survivors include his widow, Evelyn; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Jolyn) Walker; two sisters, Mrs. Helen O'Connell of Vallejo, California, and Mrs. Russell (Viola) Carr of Atkinson; a brother, Rex of White Salmon, Washington; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Isa McCutchan of Nelson; and three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
