Description	:	Joe Travis Galloway, 81, of Lake Toxaway, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, of complications following surgery for cancer. He was born and raised in the Rosman/Lake Toxaway area, spent his high school years in Patterson, Ga. and graduated from Patterson High School in 1956. Although he returned to Lake Toxaway and resided in the area the rest of his life, he looked back on his years in Georgia fondly, recalling them as the best times of his life and returned whenever possible to visit friends and family there. He worked for a time doing carpentry and construction... Read More	Joe Travis Galloway, 81, of Lake Toxaway, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, of complications following surgery for cancer. He was born and raised in the Rosman/Lake Toxaway area, spent his high school years in Patterson, Ga. and graduated from Patterson High School in 1956. Although he returned to Lake Toxaway and resided in the area the rest of his life, he looked back on his years in Georgia fondly, recalling them as the best times of his life and returned whenever possible to visit friends and family there. He worked for a time doing carpentry and construction for Rex Dillard and Rex Humphry, building homes in the Toxaway and Sapphire areas. He retired from Ecusta where he worked for over 30 years and was a pulp mill foreman. He was proceeded in death by his wife and friend of over 50 years, Joyce Hooper Galloway, as well as his parents Joe Marshall and Bessie Owen Galloway. His six siblings, Doris Galloway, Delbert Galloway, Dawson Galloway, Elvin Galloway, Dorene Galloway LaCroix and Joretta Owen Galloway, also predeceased him. He is survived by one daughter; his grandson; two sisters, two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and treated as his own. He will be remembered most for his love of family. He was a hard worker and believed in doing something physical every day. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and especially fishing. He enjoyed time outdoors, any kind of sport, gardening and caring for animals. He loved the Lord and read his Bible daily. He also loved his country, which he served through the Army Reserves, where he reached the rank of sergeant. He recognized the importance of education and mentoring. He helped anyone he could and was a loving and giving man to those in need. After retiring, he dedicated himself to loving and supporting his daughter and grandson and never missed a ballgame or school program. His daily presence in their lives will be sorely missed.
