Mr. Barquist was born on the farm where his father now lives and grew up in this community. He was a very industrious young man and of good moral character. He was unmarried. His death is a... Read More	Stratford Courier July 21, 1892 OBITUARY John E. Barquist, died of consumption, at the home of Mr. Peter Berg, in Boone, Ia. July 12, 1892, aged 25 years. Mr. Barquist was born on the farm where his father now lives and grew up in this community. He was a very industrious young man and of good moral character. He was a believer in the christian religion and during the last two weeks of his life was praising the Savior. His last words, to his dear mother, just before he died were, "I am going home to God." He was unmarried. His death is a great grief to his parents; and the kind sympathy of many friends and neighbors is freely extended to them. The funeral services were held at the home of his parents, to which the body was brought, under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias, of which order the deceased was a member.Rev. J.E. Clearwater conducted the religious services and preached the funeral sermon, from John 10-9, he was followed by Rev. Nelson who spoke a few minutes in the Swedish language. The remains were then conveyed to the cemetery and buried according to the ritual of the Pythian Order; and all was done in an impressive manner, both by the minister and the Order. A CARD OF THANKS We desire to return our heartfelt thanks to the K. of P. lodge and all others who so kindly assisted us in the last sickness and death of our beloved son, we assure you all that you will always have a place in our hearts for sympathy manifested. John Barquist Sr. and Family The following resolutions were adopted at the regular meeting of the K. of P. Lodge July 18th, 1892. WHEREAS, It has pleased the Almighty God to remove from our midst our beloved fellow member and Knight, John E. Barquist. There be it Resolved, That in his death this lodge looses an active and esteemed member, the family a dutiful son and affectionate brother, the community an honored and industrious citizen. Resolved, That we extend to the family in their sad affliction our heartfelt sympathy, and that the Castle Hall of this Lodge he draped in mourning for a period of 60 days. Resolved, That to the Brother Knights from the town Dayton, who so kindly assisted in the last sad rites, we tender our earnest and sincere thanks. Resolved, That this resolution be entered on our record and a copy of same be sent to the family, and that copies of same be furnished the Stratford Courier and Dayton Review for publication. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The Dayton Review July 21, 1892 John Barquist died at Boone Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock, to-day (Thursday of last week) at 4 o'clock under the hospices of the K. of P. lodge. IN MEMORIAM JOHN E. BARQUIST We became personally acquainted with John E. Barquist some three years ago and he was for some time our correspondent in Stratford. He impressed us as being a young man of more than ordinary ability and capacity. He was painstaking in his work. He had many friends who will grieve over him.
