She had gone to Boone for a visit with her daughter and while there was taken sick. Medical aid was immediately secured, but to no avail, and after only a week's illness she passed away, the cause of her death being due to pneumonia. Read More	Stratford Courier November 11, 1909 Obituary Barquist The people of Stratford and community were severely shocked Thursday morning when they were informed that Mrs. John Barquist had passed away at Boone on Wednesday evening. She had gone to Boone for a visit with her daughter and while there was taken sick. Medical aid was immediately secured, but to no avail, and after only a week's illness she passed away, the cause of her death being due to pneumonia. Mrs. Margaret Barquist was born in Okelbo socken, Gefleborgs Lan, Sweden, February 16, 1838. She came to America in 1857, locating in Altoona, Illinois. She was united in marriage to John Barquist at Altoona, Illinois, September 4, 1862, coming to Iowa in 1863, locating at Swede Bend, where she resided until her death. Nine children were born to this union, three girls and two sons having preceded her to the land beyond. On October 14, 1905, she was called upon to mourn the death of her husband. Deceased was a faithful and devoted member of the Swedish Lutheran church, having been a member since the organization of the congregation in Swede Bend. She was not only faithful to her church, but just as faithful in believing that it was her duty to do the will of her Master at all times. She was a kind and loving mother and always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need. None ever entered her home without a warm welcome nor left without feeling the warmth of a genuine hospitality. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Holmberg at Boone, Wednesday evening, November 3, 1909, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 25 days. Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. J. Green who paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased At the close of the solemn services the many friends who had gathered were permitted to look for the last time upon the face of the departed, then the sad cortege moved on to the Swede Bend cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest. Four children, Mrs. E.B. Snyder of La Porte City, Iowa. Mrs. Elmer Holmberg of Boone, Iowa, Miss Mary and Peter Barquist of this place, one sister at Altoona, Illinois, besides numerous relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn her departure.
