Hasenpflug Taken By Death Creighton's Oldest Citizen Dies on Saturday at Age of 91, Following Long Illness Death ended the sufferings of John H. Hasenpflug at his home in the southeast part of town on last Saturday. The end came following nearly a three year illness. He was stricken with a stroke of paralysis two years ago last April, which paralyzed one limb and one arm and from that time on he was compelled to use a wheel chair. He was not, however, taken seriously ill until about eight days ago, when dropsy and other complications set in, which culminated in his passing. During his illness he was given every care by his daughter, Mrs. W.F. Chandler. The deceased was born on April 11, 1841 in Kassel, Province of Hessen, Germany and died at Creighton, Nebr. on October 15, 1932 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 4 days. In 1864 he emigrated to America, locating first in Iowa, where he remained for several years. In the year 1872 he came to Knox county and for twenty years resided on a farm near Monowi. From there he came to Creighton and lived here up to the the time of his death, with the exception of several years in Germany, which he spent visiting relatives and friends at the home of his birth. Of his descendants there are numbered six children by a former marriage and six children by the present marriage. Of the latter, four reside in Creighton and two at Monowi. Members of the family who mourn are his widow, twelve children and many grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Hengstler & Son chapel. Rev. George Obermeyer, pastor of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, has charge of the services and delivered a fitting eulogy. Scores of friends were present to pay a final tribute to their friend and neighbor. The remains were taken to Monowi, where interment was made in the Alford cemetery, beside his son, August, who preceded him in death at the age of eight years. Relatives, including six children present at the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hasenpflug and children; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hasenpflug and children; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hasenpflug and children; Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Chandler and children, all Creighton; Mr. and Mrs. John Hasenpflug Jr. and children, Monowi and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hasenpflug and children, Monowi. The pallbearers were Henry Nicholaisen, George Hoffmann and Herman and William Lawrence of Osmond. Old friends of many years, of the deceased served as pallbearers at the Monowi cemetery.
