Here he was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. In 1868 he emigrated to America, residing at Crete, Illinois a few years. About 1870 he came to Nebraska, making his home near Tobias. Here he was married in 1876 to Charlotte Heidemann, with whom he lived together over 57 years. In 1893, he and his family moved to this community, on a farm three miles east of here. Here they resided until 1920... Read More	"Campbell Citizen", Campbell, Nebraska, June 15 1933 Obituary Henry Christoph Bartels was born November 21, 1951 in Horsten, Hessen, Germany. Here he was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. In 1868 he emigrated to America, residing at Crete, Illinois a few years. About 1870 he came to Nebraska, making his home near Tobias. Here he was married in 1876 to Charlotte Heidemann, with whom he lived together over 57 years. In 1893, he and his family moved to this community, on a farm three miles east of here. Here they resided until 1920 when he and his wife retired from the farm and moved to Campbell. To this union twelve children were born, nine sons and three daughters. Four sons and two daughters preceded the father in death. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, five sons, William, John, Charles, Frank and Paul and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Titkemeyer (sic), thirty-nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He departed this life Wednesday, June 7, 1933 at the home of his son, John, at an age of 81 years, 6 months, and 16 days. Mr. Bartels was a man well known to all people of this community. He was one of the old settlers here, having resided here over 40 years. He was a man who took an active interest in the welfare of the community, and also in Trinity Lutheran church. He was one of the charter members of this congregation and served it as elder for thirty years. Even in his old age he took a lively interest in its welfare and therefore will be sadly missed. The remains were laid to rest Saturday, June 10, 1933. Services began in the home in Campbell, and continued in Trinity Lutheran Church. The pastor, M.W. Tieman, spoke words of comfort basing his remarks on (can't read--maybe Ps) 3:10 and Rev. 14:13. An octette rendered several selections. Mrs. Mable Zuelner presided at the organ. A large host of relatives and friends from Tobias, Daykin, Plymouth, Fairbury, Wilcox, Upland, Blue Hill and other places were present. Interment was made in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. I'm but a stranger here, Heaven is my home, Earth is a desert drear, Heaven is my home. Danger and sorrow stand round me on every hand, Heaven is my fatherland, Heaven is my home.
