Johann married Rosina HIRSCHKORN on the 5th of December 1852 in Tarutino, Akkerman, Bessarabia, South Russia. The couple was blessed with 14 children; Ferdinand, Ludwig, Maria, Carolina, Wilhelm, Justine, Christoph, Wilhelmine, Christoph, Andreas, Juliane, Louisa, Christina and Dorothea. Johann and his wife, Rosina settled on Section 12, Township 134, Range 91, West of the 5th Meridian, in Hettinger County, North Dakota. After homesteading that ¼ section of property for a number of years, Rosina received a land patent for the same on the 18th of April 1912.
