Read More	Oct 11, 1906 - Carroll Times - The sudden death of John Tigges at his home in this city, Tuesday, October 3d, was briefly noted by the Times last week. Apopletic trouble was the cause of his death. He had been at work all day about the place, for in spite of his years, departed was a strong hearty man. In the evening he did not feel well, but at first it did not seem a serious matter and he sat in his chair expecting the slight indisposition to pass away soon. The change for the worse came so suddenly that he died in the chair before medical aid could be obtained. John Tigges was born in Wesphalin, Germany, in 1837. He followed the calling of a farmer. In 1867 he was married to Miss Maria Klocke and they emigrated to the U.S. in 1871. For a few years they resided at Newton, Iowa, but came to Pleasant Valley township in this county in 1873. They prospered and acquired several fine farms, now in charge of their sons. Since 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Tigges have resided in this city. Three sons and two daughters survive departed with their mother: Jos. Tigges, Dedham, Iowa; Frank Tigges Sr. and John Tigges Jr., both of pleasant Valley township; Mrs. Herman Venteicher Jr., Pleasant Valley; and Mrs. John Broich, Wilmont, Minn. All of them were present at the funeral, also a nephew, Henry Schwartz of Knox county, Neb. Solemn requiem high mass preceded the funeral Friday from SS. Peter and Paul's church in this city. The attendance, especially from Pleasant Valley township, the former home of the departed, was very large. The members of the family are held in the highest esteem and the sympathy from their old friends and neighbors is general. The Times joins in the condolence to the bereaved ones.
