During this time, however, Mrs. Tigges was not confined to her bed all the time and was up for a short time just ten minutes before her death. In the passing of Mrs. Tlgges, one if the oldest residents of the city has been removed. Before her marriage to John Tigges in 1867, Mrs. Tigges was Miss Maria Klocke. She was born in Westfalen, Germany, in March of 1831 and was married in her native land. She and her husband came to America in 1871. For few years after arriving in the United States they resided in Newell, Ia., and in 1873 they settled in Pleasant Valley township. Here they acquired large land holdings and became very prosperous. In 1900 they retired from farming and moved to this city, making their home in a cottage on South Carroll street. Since the death of Mr. Tigges 17 years ago, Mrs. Tigges coninued to make her home in Carroll. While repeatedly urged by her children to remain with them, she was loath to give up the little home, where she and her husband had happily lived since leaving the farm, and it was not until August of this year that she consented to go to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Venteicher. Her granddaughter, Miss Rose Tigges, who was very devoted to her grandmother, made her home with her for 13 years, giving up her own home in order to keep her grandmother from too much loneliness. Rose attended the parochial schools of the city and later took a business course at the St. Angela academy. During this time she was the constant companion of her grandmother, who took a new interest in life as she noted the progress of her favorite grandchild. Mrs. Tigges was a devoted member of the S.S. Peter and Paul church and of the Rosary sodality. She led an active life and until July of this year attended to her home, managing it with her usual care. She is survived by her five children: Joe Tigges, Wadena, Minn.; Frank Tigges and John Tigges, Carroll; Mrs. H.C. Venteicher, Carroll; and Mrs. Adam Broich, St. Cloud, Minn. She is also survived by 42 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock in SS. Peter and Paul's church. Rev. Fr Dries officiated at the requiem mass. Interment was made n the SS. Peter and Paul cemetery beside her husband. All the children were present at the funeral, with the exception of Mrs. Adam Broich of St. Cloud Minn., who was unable to be prcson because of the serious illness of her husband. A nephew, Henry Schwartz and daughter of Creighton, Neb. were also present.
