Description	:	Johanna F. Kruchemeier was born December 4, 1851 in New York City, New York. She was the eldest of six children, all of whom preceded her in death. At an early age, she moved with her parents to a farm near Belfast, New York. On February 23, 1867, she was united in marriage to Louis H. Thurnau. To this union were born three sons, all dying at an early age and one daughter, Mrs. H. C. Van Brocklin of Venus, Nebraska. Kruchemeier was born December 4, 1851 in New York City, New York. She was the eldest of six children, all of whom preceded her in death. At an early age, she moved with her parents to a farm near Belfast, New York. On February 23, 1867, she was united in marriage to Louis H. Thurnau. To this union were born three sons, all dying at an early age and one daughter, Mrs. H. C. Van Brocklin of Venus, Nebraska. In 1869 she, with her husband, settled on a homestead near Morse Bluffs, Saunders county, Nebraska and in the spring of 1880, she moved with her family to a timber claim in Logan township, Knox county, where she resided twenty eight years. Later she moved to Creighton, where she remained till the last six months, when she made her home with her daughter. She passed from this world to a far better one on April 4, 1930; her death being due to heart failure. "Grandma" Thurnau as she was known to many, was a model example of true womanhood. She was a good Christian, a real mother and a kind neighbor. Her passing from this world will be regretted by her many friends. May they pause on their way to say: "May she rest in peace." Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church in charge of the pastor Rev. Benj. Kuhler. The church was nearly filled with friends, who had come to pay their final tribute to an esteemed woman. The remains were interred in Greenwood cemetery.
