Description	:	Louis H. Thurnau was born on the 18th day of July 1841 at Hanover, Germany. He immigrated to the United States of America with his parents, when he was eleven years of age and settled at Belford, Louis county, New York. At the age of 22 years he enlisted in Company L. 5th New York Heavy Artillery for the term of three years or during the Civil War. In February 1867 he was married to Miss Johanna F. Kruchemeier. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, the sons dying at an early age. In 1869 he settled... Read More	Louis H. Thurnau was born on the 18th day of July 1841 at Hanover, Germany. He immigrated to the United States of America with his parents, when he was eleven years of age and settled at Belford, Louis county, New York. At the age of 22 years he enlisted in Company L. 5th New York Heavy Artillery for the term of three years or during the Civil War. In February 1867 he was married to Miss Johanna F. Kruchemeier. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, the sons dying at an early age. In 1869 he settled on a homestead near Morse Bluffs, Saunders county, Nebraska and in the spring of 1889, he removed to a timber claim in Logan Township in Knox county, Nebraska, where, with the exception of those years spent at Creighton, Nebraska, he has resided until his death, which occurred in the early morning hours on April 2, 1922 at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 14 days. He leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. H.L. Van Brocklin, her family and hosts of true friends, who will long remember his love for loyalty to his adopted country and the generous friendships he bestowed on the many he knew. The funeral was held from the M.E. church on Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. Farner and the remains were laid to rest in the Creighton cemetery. A goodly number of veterans were present at the funeral and the Creighton American Legion Post tendered the deceased a military funeral. He was a good citizen and was liked by those who knew him and his four score years were lived with friends in an unselfish and wholesome way attaching him thereby to his every acquaintance.
