The last rites were preceded by a prayer service at the old Funke home in Blue Hill at 10:00 o’clock. The Rev. J.N. Marxen, pastor of St. Paul’s church, was in charge of the services. Mrs. Ralph Baird accompanied a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, Mrs. Clarence Frahm, and Harold Waechter. Pallbearers were W.C. Frahm, Carl Goll, Adolph Alber, Frank Dickinson, Thos. White and George W. Arms. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery. Johanna Helen Margaret Hanken was born October 18, 1859, in Alljuihrden, near Varal, Oldenberg, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her childhood. On February 23, 1882, she was united in marriage to Edward H. Funke of Varal, Germany, and to this union ten children were born, six daughters and four sons. A daughter, Anne, died in infancy, a son, Edward, and another daughter, Emma Harrian, also preceded the parents in death. After immigrating from Germany to the United State in 1882, Mr. and Mrs. Funke came to Nebraska and lived the greater part of their lives in this community where Mr. Funke engaged in the mercantile business. He passed away March 6, 1922. Since his death Mrs. Funke had made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Minnie Dickinson, Mrs. Anna Roulston and Mrs. Johanna White. She passed away peacefully on April 2 at the home of Mrs. Dickinson in Denver at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 14 days. The deceased was a member of St. Paul’s church in Blue Hill having retained her membership their there since 1904. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid society of the church. Mrs. Funke is survived by four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Minnie Dickinson of Denver, Henry Funke of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Carolyn McSpaden of Norfolk, Virginia; Mrs. Anna Roulston of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Eimo Funke of Sacramento, California; Anton Funke of Oakland, California; and Mrs. Johanna White of Canon City, Colorado.
