She attained the age of 94 years and 27 days. Johanna Marie Schmidt was born on a farm north of Worthing, South Dakota on June 25, 1910, the daughter of Johann U. and Trintje (Wibben) Schmidt. She attained the age of 94 years and 27 days. Johanna Marie Schmidt was born on a farm north of Worthing, South Dakota on June 25, 1910, the daughter of Johann U. and Trintje (Wibben) Schmidt. She attended Sherman rural school, grew up there and helped her parents and neighbors with their farming. On May 20, 1942 she was united in marriage to Okke Iken at Lennox Ebenezer parsonage. Following their marriage they farmed northeast of Lennox and moved into Lennox in 1982. Her husband died on April 28, 1991. She continued living in Lennox since that time and became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on September 18, 2001. Besides her husband, Okke, she was preceded in death by her father in 1938, her mother in 1943, two sisters: Eka Buse in 1928 and Meta DeVries in 1987; six brothers: Alvin in 1914, Lawrence in 1919, Herman in l960, George in 1964, Ulfert in 1964 and Edward in 1966. She was the last surviving member of the Johann Schmidt family. Grateful for having shared her life are her son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Lorna Iken of Lennox; three grandchildren: Jane Iken of Milbank, Jason Iken and his wife, Jackie, of Houston,Texas and Jess Iken and his wife, Cara, of Lennox; three step-great-grandsons: Nick, Garrett and Ben; several nieces and nephews, including special nephew and nieces: Duane DeVries and his wife, Lois, of Worthing and Martha Iken and Johanna Iken of Lennox.
