Read More	Johanna Ottilie Christina (Brehmer) Albrecht Christina Brehmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brehmer, was born December 25, 1860, on Lyons Creek, Dickinson County Kansas near what is now Herrington, and died at her farm home one mile west of Herington, where she had lived for twenty-five years, Oct. 7, 1942. Although she had been a semi-invalid for some time, her last illness was short. Christiana Brehmer was baptized as a small child at St. John's Lutheran Church by the missionary, Rev. Fritz, from Missouri, and confirmed in the same church some years later by Rev. Leuker, resident pastor. She remained a faithful member of the church throughout her life. On Dec. 4, 1879, she was married to Frederich Albrecht, who preceded her in death. Seven children were born to this union, four of whom survive their mother. They are: Henry of Herington; Frederich, of Hope; Mrs. Paul Assman of Tampa; and Otto of the home. Mrs. Albrecht also leaves sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Carl Brehmer brought his family to Kansas from Wisconsin in the fifties, among the first settlers of Dickinson County. He took up his home on Lyons Creek, where the younger children were born. Christiana was one of these. Mrs. Albrecht was a fine character who lived to a great age, admired and loved by many people. These friends were always interested in her stories of early days in this county, when buffalo roamed the prairies, where now there are fine farms, comfortable homes and modern cities, even before the Texas longhorn made a trail up through Kansas along the creeks and rivers to Abilene. All of this history remained vivid in the mind of Christiana Albrecht and friends never tired listening to her recollection of pioneering and the primitive ways of living, so different from today. Her stories of hardship, of friendly Indians and otherwise good neighbors, of the long trips to Atchison for supplies and to Council Grove to mill, all by ox teams; of the devastation when the grasshoppers came; the burning of corn for fuel; when milk was so much more plentiful than water that it was used to put out a fire; all these made contributions toward the thrilling history of Dickinson County, The last rites for Christiana Albrecht were held from her own church, St. John's Lutheran, October 9, 1942, and her remains laid to rest by the side of her husband with the Rev.
